The Eleventh Ward of New York City was a late 19th century district on the island of Manhattan spanning much of what we now know today as the Lower East Side (LES). It was highly populated by a German diaspora and, as a consequence, heavily littered with beer saloons.
Being a native of Manhattan and after spending much of his life growing up in nearby Stuyvesant Town, it seemed fitting that the band would adopt the name of a neighborhood where Chris frequented bars, restaurants and music venues throughout his adolescence and on.
Chris, Greg, Ben and Mark have since played The Local 269 and Parkside Lounge in the heart of the Eleventh Ward, as well as close by Lower East Side hot spots such as Arlene’s Grocery and The National Underground.
